Q: Who can submit a proposal for consideration
for the 2011 ArSHA Convention?
A: We encourage all speech-language pathologists and audiologists
to use this opportunity to participate and share ideas as clinicians
and researchers. ArSHA has always been proud of the quality of
the Convention Program. All submissions are peer reviewed and
acceptance suggests that the work is of the highest caliber.
Q: What information do I need to submit
my proposal?
A: Please see the Instructions
for Online Submission for more details.
Q: What content areas are appropriate
for submission to Call for Papers?
A: Audiology, Medical, School-Age, Infant/Toddler/Preschool, Multi-Interest
Select one content area which best encompasses the primary subject
matter of your proposal. Choice of the topic determines who will
review the proposal and influences the intended audience. Selection
of a single area for submission is sometimes difficult as topics
may fit in more than one area; however, choose the content area
that best represents the focus of your session.
Q: What are the criteria for acceptance
of proposals?
A: Program subcommittees will evaluate the submitted materials
based upon quality, distribution of subject matter and range of
membership participation. In accordance with ASHA CEB Requirements
presentations must not be used to promote or endorse products
or materials. Submissions will not be considered for inclusion
in the program for such presentations.
Q: How do I submit my proposal to ArSHA
for consideration for the 2011 Convention?
A: ArSHA is now accepting submissions
for Call for Papers online. Please see the Instructions
for Online Submission.
Q: Do I have to submit my proposal online?
A: Online submission of proposals is required.
Q: Do I have to have an email address
to submit online?
A: Yes, confirmation and notification will be done via email.
Q: What is the deadline for submission?
A: The Call For Papers deadline for ArSHA's 2011 Convention is December 1, 2010.
Q: How will I know if my proposal was
submitted successfully?
A: Once you have submitted all of the appropriate information
into the fields and clicked the send button, a message will appear
stating that your submission was successful. If a field was in
error, you will be asked to go back to correct the information.
Q: When will I know if my presentation
has been accepted for the 2011 Convention?
A: Deadline for submissions has not been determined yet, and will be announced shortly. Primary authors
will receive notification from the Program Committee with the
decision.
Q: What if I have trouble submitting
my Call for Papers online?
A: If for some reason you have any difficulty submitting your
proposal for the 2011 Call For Papers via our electronic form,
please e-mail us at papers@arsha.org with your name, e-mail address, as many details
as you can provide about the problem you are having, and a phone
number at which you can be reached during the day in case we need
to contact you over the phone. You should expect a response from
us within 48 hours.
Q: If my proposal is accepted, will
I receive complimentary registration for the 2011 Convention?
A: Submission of a proposal is a commitment to be a registered
participant of the convention. In accordance with ASHA's policy,
registration for the ArSHA Convention is not complimentary or
discounted for submitted speakers.
Q: How can I be sure the information
I type won't be lost?
A: Information for the biographical sketch, abstract summary,
and abstract proposal should be created and saved as a word processing
document (such as Microsoft Word) prior to beginning the online
submission process. Information could then be pasted into the
appropriate fields on the web. The information would still be
saved on a disk or your computer's hard drive.
Q: What audio-visual equipment will
be available for my presentation?
A: All rooms will be equipped with an LCD Projection System. You
will need to bring your own laptop computer. Any additional requests
will be considered at the discretion of the committee and the
availability of such resources.
Q: What should I write for Learner Objectives?
A: ASHA's continuing education board guidelines require learner objectives for each presentation. Well-developed learning objectives are participant oriented, and observable and measurable. Describe the skills, knowledge, and/or attitudes (learning outcomes) participants will be able to demonstrate as a result of this activity. (For example: as a result of this activity, the participant will be able to
) You should describe your learning outcomes using action verbs.
Examples of good learner objectives:
The participant will be able to perform cerumen management procedures.
The participant will be able to identify language disturbances due to dementia.
The participant will be able to list three benefits of the new AAC device.
These use action verbs and are observable and measurable.
Avoid:
Participant will understand the importance of cochlear implants.
Participant will learn about accent reduction strategies.
Participant will become familiar with oral motor therapy techniques.
These are not observable or measurable.
