The Audiology Licensure Committee has now finished its final draft of the bill to update the Audiology Licensure requirements to include the Au.D. This bill is the result of two years of work by the committee. The committee consists of fifteen audiologists who represent a wide variety of work settings and experience. This is a consensus bill, meant to appeal to the majority of audiologists in the state of Arizona. It is designed to upgrade the qualifications of the audiology professional and ensure the health and safety of our clients.
The proposed bill WILL NOT change the licensure requirements for anyone who is currently licensed in Arizona. The only exceptions there might be are, if the licensee lets his or her license expire or he/she wanted to change their current licensure category (i.e., changing from an Audiologist to a Dispensing Audiologist). Once the bill is signed by the Governor, all new licensees will need to meet the new licensure requirements.
The proposed bill can be viewed on the ArSHA website ( click here to download).
When reviewing the bill, please note that all proposed changes appear
in CAPITAL LETTERS and all items that will be deleted will have
strikethroughs (i.e., proposed change). Only those sections of the
original licensure act which have proposed changes are included in this
bill.
Here is a summary of the proposed changes to the current licensure statute:
Section
36-1901. A new definition of Accredited Program and Audiologist.
36-1901. A new guideline for unprofessional conduct regarding the usage of the term, Doctor of Audiology.
36-1902. Collaboration and Consultation have been added to the duties of the Advisory Committee. 36-1904. Increase in CEUs for renewal of license from
8 to 10 hours (this is in line with the national associations'
requirements). 36-1940. Addition of the doctoral degree. Deleted
requirement for the hearing aid dispenser exam for those who hold
doctoral degree. 36-1940.02. Waiver for master's level persons (new licensees). 36-1940.03. Elimination of the temporary license in Audiology since there will no longer be a CFY.
