Supervisor Certificate Information PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 15 November 2008
Dear Non-Teaching Professionals:

Thank you all for your interest in the new requirements for the administrative Supervisor Certificate. Whereas the previous requirements included 3 years classroom teaching experience and a concurrently held teaching certificate, our certificates and experience in schools will now count toward meeting the requirements to hold an administrative Supervisor level certificate. The three professions currently affected by these changes include School Psychologists, School Counselors and Speech-Language Professionals. There are other requirements, which you can access from the attached documents. It is now possible for all of us to consider leadership positions in our respective fields. Having appropriate administrators will not only benefit us but will also benefit the children who receive our learning support services. Please consider taking advantage of these new opportunities.

On November 6th we held an interest informational meeting in Tempe, which most of you know. We had 38 people in attendance at that meeting! We are trying to make this certificate as accessible as possible by starting some localized cohort groups through ASU. Be aware that the Supervisor certificate coursework is already available through ASU, NAU, UA, Argosy, University of Phoenix, and other universities. You may also be able to take advantage of the administrative training programs and cohort groups within your own districts. The attempts to develop new cohort groups through ASU are for the purpose of offering courses at convenient times and places for those of you who are interested in this certificate. Please complete the attached ASU Cohort Interest Information sheet so we can see how best to offer training and to keep you in the loop with further developments.

There are 4 attachments to this email: (1) an overview of the ASU Supervisor Certificate course of study; (Note that not all of these courses are offered each semester.) (2) The State Department requirements for the Supervisor Certificate; (3) The ASU Cohort Interest Information Sheet; and (4) an article with details about the certificate itself. This article was written for school psychologists but the information applies to all of you. We had additional questions at the meeting, such as people wondering what becomes of their current certificate. That certificate is still valid and people often have multiple certificates or endorsements through the Department of Education. Please feel free to email or call with additional questions or with information that might help our group.

Thank you for your serious consideration of adding this Supervisor Certificate to your toolbox. After all, you never know what opportunities may be waiting and “chance favors the prepared mind.”
