Abstract: Hearing loss and cognitive decline often accompany the aging process. This presentation will explore the relationship between hearing loss, cognitive decline, and neurodegenerative
disorders. Management strategies for hearing loss with cognitively compromised older adults
will be presented. The effects of concussion and mild traumatic brain injury on auditory
perception for all ages will be briefly discussed.
After completing this course, participants will:
1. Describe the association between cognition and hearing loss
2. Identify the effect of traumatic brain injury and concussion on auditory perception
3. Define management strategies for adults with hearing loss and dementia
