Job Description
The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) at Northern Arizona University (NAU) invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor from candidates with expertise in the area of culturally and linguistically responsive practices in speech-language pathology. Applicants can have additional expertise in any area of clinical practice such as pediatric speech and language, or adult neurogenic communication disorders. The successful applicant will join a diverse faculty that is committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice. In this position, the selected individual will have the unique opportunity to work together with existing faculty to develop the academic and clinical requirements for a newly approved and funded graduate certificate program in culturally and linguistically responsive practices in speech-language pathology. This innovative new program is aligned with our designation as a Hispanic Serving Institution and as a university with a specific commitment to Indigenous Peoples. As such, we are committed to providing equitable, high impact learning opportunities and to embracing the cultural and linguistic diversity of our region. In the first year of the appointment, primary responsibilities will be in the area of curriculum development for this new program. In subsequent years, other responsibilities will include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in CSD, maintaining a productive research program in areas of expertise, seeking external funding for research and scholarly activity, participating in clinical teaching activities as applicable, and providing service to the department, college, university, and profession. The anticipated start date for this position is August 2023. However, an earlier start date in January 2023 will be considered. Opportunities for summer teaching are available.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Research doctorate in speech-language pathology or closely related field. ABD will be considered if the candidate is in the final stages of the dissertation process and it is clear the degree will be earned before the start of the appointment.
  • Prior experience in the development, implementation, and dissemination of a research project.
  • University/college teaching experience (can include teaching assistantships, co-teaching, and guest lectures).
  • Prior work experience, professional presentations, or research endeavors that specifically address communication disorders in culturally and linguistically diverse populations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Completed PhD
  • Eligibility for CCC-SLP and Arizona State Licensure
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity-minded practices in academic and clinical teaching
  • Demonstrated commitment to evidence-based clinical practice methodologies in the assessment and treatment of culturally and linguistically diverse populations
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in clinical education and instruction (as evidenced by a well-developed and thoughtful statement that is consistent with NAU’s mission to provide inclusive academic excellence and previous teaching experience)
  • Scholarship related to the effectiveness and outcomes of teaching
