STUDENT AWARDS
ArSHA offers two graduate student scholarships (one for a graduate student in speech-language pathology and one for audiology). Applications open in January and winners are announced at the convention in April.

ArSHA Outstanding Graduate Student Scholarship
Outstanding Graduate Form
Purpose: to recognize one current active ArSHA student member majoring in speech-language pathology and one current active student majoring in audiology who have displayed strong clinical potential, leadership skills, and pre-professional involvement and service at the local, state or national level.
Eligibility: applicants must be current, active student members of ArSHA, part-time or full-time students in an Arizona university, enrolled in an accredited Communication Science and Disorders graduate degree program, have a cumulative, GPA of at least 3.25, have completed at least nine semester credit hours of the program, and have at least one full school year left in their degree program.
Scholarship Amount: a scholarship of $500 will be awarded to each scholarship awardee. The recipient/s will be invited to the ArSHA Honors and Awards Ceremony during the Annual ArSHA Convention where they will be recognized and presented with the scholarship and a certificate.
Selection Process: the scholarship recipient/s will be selected based on the student’s letter of application and essay, leadership skills, state or national pre-professional involvement, academic and clinical performance, and letter of recommendation, not financial need. The recipient/s of the scholarship will be notified by the ArSHA Honors and Awards Committee Chair. Those who applied but will not receive the scholarship will also be notified by the ArSHA Honors and Awards Committee’s decision by email at the same time.
James Case Student Clinical Award
$200, waiver for ArSHA 2-day Annual Convention and 1-year ArSHA membership
James Case Student Clinician Form
Dr. James Case was a professor in the Department of Speech and Hearing Science at Arizona State University (ASU) for 33 years. He was a Fellow of ASHA, a recipient of the Honors of ArSHA (1992) and a recipient of the Marilyn Quintana Moline Mentorship Award (2002). He served for 15 years on the highly respected Southwest Craniofacial Medical Team. Dr. Case was well known for his work in voice disorders but he was even more known for his excellence in treating his patients with kindness and compassion and for his role as a caring mento and role model for both professionals and students. He was chosen as an outstanding teacher in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at ASU. His early departure from ASU due to illness in 2006 was truly a great loss.
In 2006, the ArSHA Student Clinical Award was formally named in honor of Dr. Case and the annual James Case Student Clinical Award was born.
The Director of Clinical Services at ASHA accredited universities within the state of Arizona will submit a nomination for 2 graduate/doctoral students who have demonstrated outstanding clinical potential; one who is enrolled in a graduate program in SLP and one who is enrolled in an AuD program. If there is no AuD program at the university, then one nomination will be accepted.
