Speaker Bio:
Julie Stockdale is an ASHA-certified pediatric speech-language pathologist licensed in Arizona, Alberta and British Columbia. Her clinical work focuses on pediatric telepractice, caregiver coaching, school-linked service delivery, clinician readiness and access to speech-language pathology services for children and families in underserved, rural and high-need communities. Julie recently delivered a two-part invited clinical forum series at A.T. Still University’s Speech-Language Pathology program titled Teletherapy: Engagement and Coaching, attended by 28 graduate SLP students preparing for their clinical fellowships. She is currently in active collaboration with ArSHA on a telepractice webinar series, and this proposal builds directly on that ongoing work. She also serves as treasurer of the Alberta Speech-Language Association of Private Practitioners. With 15 years of clinical experience spanning public schools, private practice and cross-border telepractice, Julie brings both the clinical grounding and practical frameworks that working SLPs need when stepping into virtual or hybrid service delivery. Her Pediatric Telepractice Readiness Framework was developed in direct response to gaps she identified through clinical practice and peer consultation, and is currently in use in student supervision at the graduate level.

Abstract:
Pediatric telepractice can expand access to speech-language pathology services for children and families in underserved, rural, school-linked and high-need communities. However, effective telepractice requires more than access to a virtual platform. Clinicians need practical preparation in caregiver coaching, culturally responsive care, ethical decision-making, documentation, privacy, child engagement, service quality and collaboration with families, schools and community partners.
This webinar provides a practical framework for pediatric SLPs delivering or considering telepractice services, with emphasis on ethical decision-making and culturally responsive service delivery. Participants will learn how to evaluate telepractice readiness, structure family-centered sessions, coach caregivers, adapt activities for children with social communication and developmental needs, document service quality and identify when telepractice should be modified or supplemented. The session is designed for pediatric, school-based, community-based, private-practice and telepractice SLPs seeking clinically responsible strategies for virtual or hybrid service delivery. Content applies to clinicians across Arizona who serve or could serve rural, high-need or geographically dispersed pediatric populations — regardless of current caseload setting.
